Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams CollectionReviewsIf your looking for a fast paced, extremely fun pinball game .this is the one to get. Good graphics and sound, the tables in this collection are very fun to play unlike some of the other collections out there.you know the ones where you rarely get to use the flippers, the ball just rolls down the middle or goes right to the out lanes. The controls on the wii are much better than other systems when it comes to playing pinball, you get to hold one flipper control in each hand as far apart or as close together as you want to,unlike the x-box 360.one controller in both hands. If you love the silver ball then the williams collection is for you.Gaurenteed hours of fun.If you like more of a challenge and have the patience, then you might want to try the gottlieb collection. There you'll find the old quarter sucking tables wich i will master now that i don't have to keep putting quarters in. price at amazon was half the price of any store I found this game in.Even cheaper than some of the used ones I found in the trade in stores. This is a great game. Reminds me of playing pinball as a kid. If you like pinball you need this game. Its awesome. Simply put, this is a very fun and addictive game. I won't repeat all of the details of other reviews, but the games are incredibly realistic and the Wii controls are easy to use. The Williams Challenge is a lot of fun because you get to move from game to game in a single challenge. My main gripe is that the selection of games is a little random. While some of the games (Taxi, Funhouse) are very well known, others don't seem to be "greatest hits" and/or haven't necessarily stood the test of time. They are still fun games to play on the Wii, but at least for me I only had actual memories of playing a few of these games. Here's hoping this is just Volume 1! Other minor improvements I'd like to see: 1. It doesn't appear that you can save your progress during the Williams Challenge, meaning you have to play ALL the games in a single sitting, which can take quite a long time. It is also unclear how the scoring works for the Challenge. 2. It is difficult to adjust the camera angle while you are playing (you must hit the "1" button while continuing to make sure you don't lose the ball) so it's been hard for me to figure out which angle I like best. You can't choose an angle before the turn starts because they you only get "Plunger Cam" angles. 3. I'd like to see an easy "Restart" button instead of having to quit out of the entire game and then reload it. Other than that, this is a great game and well worth the money. Hours and hours of fun and a great challenge. All things considered, for 20 bucks, this is a fantastic deal. If you own a Wii and like playing pinball, this is a must have. I was really surprised by how close to playing a real pinball game this is. The physics are very, very close to real and I am quite discriminating. You can do ball "saves" exactly like it is done with the real game especially if you are just using the flippers without trying to move the table. I'm not great at physically moving the game to save balls in real life, but I do have a little skill using the technique. Using the Wii controller and nunchuck to only move one side appears to slide the table to the side you want. This is very impressive. The game reproductions themselves are also very good. I've played most of these games in real life and I cannot discern any difference at all. Having the table goals and varied game play is also a nice touch. Don't get me wrong, this is not like having a real pin in your basement, but if you have a big TV its pretty close. And having a dozen classic pins for 20 bucks that replaces 20 grand worth of pinball machines with no maintenance is awesome! Looks the same, but anyone that played these games growing up will know that its never the same as playing the real thing. Fun to see and play this, but nothing will compare to the real thing. Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams CollectionReviewsI'm a midevil madness junkie, and this game scratched that itch wonderfully. It's incredibly faithful even to the point where the only thing you notice missing is that everything on the table works correctly. You never see that on a real table because some relay is always stuck or broken. The other tables are really well done too. All in all a great and faithful pinball sim. Many reviewers have already covered PHoF's features and gameplay extensively, so I'm just going to talk about a few things I've noticed as a long-time fan of physical and digital pinball. *PHoF has outstanding graphics and sound. Go ahead, compare the digital tables to the real-life machines...pretty much everything, down to the backglass, thumper bumpers, and spinners, is exactly as it should be. *Digital pinball veterans may recall how realistic Microsoft Pinball Arcade was, especially given it came out in 1999. PHoF has even better physics, better sound, and a superior selection of machines (I've always dug Williams and Bally more than Gottlieb, even as a kid). *Arabian Nights and Gophers suffer a bit from camera angle problems. The stationary cameras in Gophers are pulled fairly far back, so it's difficult to get a good view of what's going on. Arabian Nights has the opposite problem. The camera angles are too flat, making it difficult to see the upper parts of the playfield. Players who prefer the dynamic cameras, of course, won't be bothered by any of this. In any case, both tables are still fun to play. *The Trophies are pretty easy to earn and almost seem like a hastily added afterthought to the main game. Bottom line: despite minor camera issues on the more complex tables, PHoF is tons o' fun and well worth picking up. Anybody who loves pinball, especially those who don't have regular access to the real thing, will not be disappointed. The graphics were not as good as Zen Pinball. And Zen has addon content at the ps store. This title slipped by me totally. Caught it on a "customers who bought this also bought" scroller. Great collection, a must have especially for Pinball Wizards abound. What a great collection of old and newer pinball games that have great physics, sound effects and excellent graphics. It's obvious the developers/coders took great pride in this collection, reproducing the look and feel of each table. My only complaint would be that after a game, you have to return to a sub-menu to play again. Not a big deal really. A+ title. I LOVE game collections like this, especially to break the monotomy of more engrossing games. Got a spare 15 minutes to kill? This works well, play a few rounds and shut down. What we need are more HD collections of old classic games, done with care as to not alter the originals. It's easy to do with video game collections, but pinball is so different and harder to reproduce without the game being modified or a straight port that can often get boring in this day and age of gaming. Pinball stands the test of time and never gets old. More more more collections like this! 5 stars for the love put into this collection... Was thinking about buying a real pinball machine but seeing how cheap this is compared to the real thing I couldn't resist this and bought it. The graphics, sound and physics are excellent and the board variety is satisfactory. There's a plethora of boards to choose from and easy trophies to get. I'm not sure why this had to be distributed on Blu-Ray when the game is not that "big" like Resistance 2, Killzone 2 or something else that would require a large storage media for distribution but it makes a good addition to your physical game collection. Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams CollectionReviewsI couldn't have been more pleased with the Pinball Hall of Fame videogame since it took me back to my youth and my spending countless quarters in the quest to get the high score. Or at least match so I could play again. Excellent videogame that I enjoy as well as my 11 and 8 year old sons!! If your looking for a fast paced, extremely fun pinball game .this is the one to get. Good graphics and sound, the tables in this collection are very fun to play unlike some of the other collections out there.you know the ones where you rarely get to use the flippers, the ball just rolls down the middle or goes right to the out lanes.controls are fast and very responsive. If you love the silver ball then the williams collection is for you.Gaurenteed hours of fun.If you like more of a challenge and have the patience, then you might want to try the gottlieb collection. There you'll find the old quarter sucking tables wich i will master now that i don't have to keep putting quarters in. I also have this game for the wii and the controls are better because you get to hold one flipper control in each hand and you can spread your hands out or hold them close together. As a pinball fan, this was a must buy for me. I already own Williams Pinball Hall of Fame for my PSP to play tables on the go. When I saw that the Xbox 360 version added No Good Gofers, Tales of the Arabian Nights and Medieval Madness, I had to get it . Crave did a very nice job recreating these great tables across the decades. The HD graphics are very nice -- well modeled, lit and textured tables in full 3D. One issue is that on some tables, like No Good Gophers and Tales of the Arabian Nights, it is difficult to see everything clearly because they have so many toys on them. It can be disorienting. The smart cam is smooth as it zooms to the top of the table for detail and then back out for your flipper shot. Of course you can turn the smart cam off to get a view of the whole table. Each table offers a different challenge, and while some are more fun than others, there is enough variety and awesomeness to keep you engaged. I found the physics to be pretty good, especially on the flippers. Let's face it, I bought this for Medieval Madness. I briefly flirted with a couple other tables, but this game would have been worth it even if the only table were Medieval Madness. Great game, very realistic, except more reliable and less likely to make me jump at the replay 'POP' than the real machine. The title says it all, really. You get a ton of great recreated tables from pinball's heyday along with the most realistic physics in a pinball video game to date. I've spent countless hours playing Pin*Bot alone. And I even have the real thing in my living room! I can only hope the next game in the series will include even more classics like The Addams Family, Twilight Zone, Cirqus Voltaire and ST:TNG. A vertical orientation option would be nice as well. Many pinball simulation enthusiasts like myself play with our HDTV and computer monitors like that all the time. If you have any love for pinball you must buy this game, especially now that it only costs $20. Average Rating:![]() |
